SMG’s greatest strength is its people.  Our senior staff provides not only a wealth of experience, but they are also recognized leaders in the community association management field.  Our senior staff is an integral part of the team, available to support your Community Manager to ensure that SMG provides the service your community demands and expects.  Summary resumes of our key staff members follow:

Lanya Massman, President of Smith Management Group, has over 25 years of property management experience.  Since 1992 she has been active with the St. Louis Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Associations Institute.  She served as President-Elect of the Chapter in 1993; and in 1994 served as President of the Chapter.  She served on the Board from 1995 through 2000, serving as Secretary.  Ms. Massman is a Missouri Real Estate Commission licensed broker.

Sheilah Buettner, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, Senior Community Manager, has been with SMG since 1994.  Sheilah has solid financial knowledge with the ability to identify and implement cost-effective measures where necessary.  Her strengths lie in her strong leadership qualities and her communications skills.  She is extremely detail-oriented and has excellent follow-through.  Sheilah is a licensed St. Louis Realtor.  In addition, she has been awarded the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) accreditation through the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers, and the Association Management Specialist (AMS) and Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designations awarded by the Community Associations Institute.

Joyce Gross, CMCA, AMS, Senior Community Manager, joined SMG in 1998 with over 15 years experience in project management for the Illinois Power Company, which has prepared her well for managing community associations.  Her strengths are in working with contractors to get maximum performance from them and to assure that they meet the terms of the contract.  She has excellent communication and presentation skills, and works well with her Boards of Directors, keeping them goal-oriented toward achieving timely end results.  Joyce has achieved the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) accreditation through the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers, and the Association Management Specialist (AMS) designation, awarded by the Community Associations Institute.

James Gasich, CMCA, Senior Community Manager, joined SMG in May of 2003.  Prior to joining SMG, James served for over seven-years as manager of a one of the largest private community associations in the Midwest with over 3,500 residential properties ranging from single-family homes to villas to condos.  He enjoys the challenge of addressing multiple issues and goals for the communities he serves.  He has received his Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation through National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers.  James enjoys the challenge of working with multiple communities and satisfies his goals by utilizing his strengths in communication and construction skills, time management, financial knowledge and leadership.

Gwen Sheedy, CMCA, Senior Community Manager, has been with SMG since April of 2004. Gwen has 12 years experience in real estate management, including both residential and commercial properties.  Prior to joining SMG, Gwen was Maintenance Coordinator for 63 shopping centers in St. Louis and Illinois where she gained vast experience in common area maintenance, contracts and construction. Gwen has also received her Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation through National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers.   Her strengths are in time management and communication skills.

Elizabeth Petersen, CMCA, Senior Community Manager, has been with SMG since July of 2005. Elizabeth has been involved in residential real estate management since 1980 as an employee and privately.  Prior to joining SMG, Elizabeth spent several years managing high-rise, multifamily and single-family communities. Elizabeth has received her Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation through the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers.   Her knowledge of buildings and their components coupled with her organizational and communication skills offer the Communities within her portfolio an exceptional level of management expertise.
